I just don't get it

I love to read. I'll read almost anything, in any format. I can't imagine a day without reading. And yes, I do have a life. Quite a busy one, but reading is part of my day, just like working, eating, and playing.

However, there is one book that I just don't get, at all. I realize that I run the risk of offending a very large group of people when I say that I don't get The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. Yes, it's funny. But, to me, it's funny like The Three Stooges are funny. Incredibly slapstick, somewhat annoying, and only amusing in very small doses. I even watched the movie to see if it would draw me back to the book. Unfortunately, I just view that experience as two hours of my life I won't get back.

I checked Amazon to see how it's selling. Of course, it's a spectacularly popular novel, and has been for the last 25 years or so. Incredibly, 663 people took time out of their busy lives to write a review for this book. All I can say about this is, "????????????????????????????????".

I just don't get it.
